Love the preparation of this bumpy little guy- just perfectly perched on the original limestone matrix he was embedded in for so many millions of years. Fully prepared on both sides, this is a great decorative display piece due to the ruggedness and durability. Great textural element. Mammites are one of several genus of ammonites that can be found in Morocco and although not exactly rare, they are hard to find complete and in good condition, which makes this piece a super catch! Ammonites were predatory mollusks that resembled a squid with a shell. These cephalopods had eyes, tentacles, and spiral shells. They are more closely related to a living octopus, though the shells resemble that of a nautilus.
